All in the Details: DIY Drawer Liners

Give your eyes a treat every time you open a drawer by adding a pop of colour and a pretty design! DIY gift wrap drawer liners are a great option when revamping your furniture since wrapping paper is inexpensive, easy to find, and comes in an array of fun colours and pattern. It’s also easy to install and equally easy to replace if you ever want to switch it up again!

What You'll Need:

  • Measuring Tape
  • Wrapping paper of choice
  • Clear contact paper
  • Scissors
  • Precise cutting tool
  • Tape (optional)

Start by gently sliding the drawer out as far as it will go. Then, lift the front slightly and pull. Most drawers will pop right out with a little wiggle. If yours has metal tracks or safety latches, check underneath for a release lever or button.

Grab a measuring tape and note the length and width of the drawer’s interior. Measure twice to be sure, you want your liner to fit snug without bunching or gaps. Jot it down so you’re not guessing later!

Roll out your contact paper and wrapping paper on a flat surface, pretty side down. Carefully cut using the measurements from earlier. Sharp scissors or a craft knife will give you those crisp, clean edges.

Now for the fun (and slightly sticky) part! Peel back a corner of the contact paper to expose the adhesive side. Line it up with the back of your wrapping paper, keeping it as straight as possible. Slowly smooth it down as you peel away the rest of the backing. Use your hand to press out any bubbles as you go.

Once your contact paper is fully stuck to the wrapping paper, flip it over and check for any extra edges. If there’s any overhang, grab your scissors or a craft knife and trim along the edges for a nice, clean finish. This will help it sit perfectly in the drawer without curling or bunching.

It's time to insert your custom liner into the drawer! Carefully place it inside, using your hands to smooth it out and ensure it fits perfectly. If you measured and trimmed correctly, it should lie flat and appear as though it was made specifically for that space. Which, to be honest, it absolutely was!

Step back and take a look at your handiwork. That drawer just went from blah to beautiful with a simple DIY touch. Whether it’s holding socks, spoons, or your secret snack stash, it’s looking good and feeling fresh. Give yourself a little high five. You earned it!

This project doesn’t have to stop at just your chest of drawers. You can use this drawer liner concept for any and every room to add a little detail! Try revamping your desk, or even a dining room server next!
