Your mattress is an investment that you make to ensure a better sleep, which in turn, delivers better physical and mental health! So why not protect your investment by regularly cleaning and caring for your bed? A little love and care can go a long way!

Change Your Sheets

Dust mites like to make themselves at home on our beds, feeding on the dead skin in warm and humid spots. Yuck! Start banishing these critters by washing your bedsheets in hot water every one to two weeks. If you’ve been particularly sweaty or sick at night, change them more often for a clean and comfortable sleep.

Vacuum

Before any deep cleaning, start with a good vacuuming to get rid of skin cells, dust, dirt and hair that has accumulated over time on your mattress. A clean upholstery attachment should only be used to avoid depositing any new contaminants onto the surface.

Spot Clean

Accidents do happen, like spilling red wine or coffee in bed! But there’s also stains of the bodily variety that we prefer not to think or talk about. Treat these stains with a mild dish or laundry detergent and a damp cloth. It’s important to use a damp cloth and not one that is soaking wet to avoid saturating the mattress.

Deodorize

Sleeping on a smelly mattress is never a pleasant experience! For extra cleaning power and odour removal, sprinkle a light layer of baking soda over the entire surface of your mattress. Let it sit for an hour and then vacuum off the baking soda, making sure to remove from the crevices in your mattress.

Cover & Protect

While a fitted sheet does provide a layer between you and the mattress, a mattress cover acts as a barrier to keep your mattress safe from dust mites, allergens, and liquids. Beyond that, a mattress cover can also evaporate moisture to ensure a cool and comfortable sleep. When it needs to be cleaned, throw it in the washing machine and tumble dry on low!

Rotate

Unless your mattress care instructions state otherwise, periodically rotate your mattress from end-to-end and flip it over. Since we tend to sleep in the same spots and positions, the rotating process will help to prevent uneven wear.

Your bed and your health go hand in hand! If you’re suffering from allergies and annoying aches and pains as soon as you hit the hay, it might be time to replace your old mattress!
